SPWC launches trainer’s manual in Erongo

The Swapo Party Women's Council (SPWC) has launched its trainer's manual on Gender, Political Advocacy and Leadership here on Saturday.

Launching the manual, SPWC Secretary Eunice Iipinge said that the manual was developed in the areas of advocacy, lobbying and mobilisation skills, with the ultimate aim of capacity building in regards to strategies for achieving equal gender political presentation.

The manual is also aimed at mainstreaming of gender related concerns within various national, regional and local development policies and programmes, she added.

Iipinge added that the manual is also envisaged to serve as a tool in the hands of trainers who would be entrusted with conducting training sessions for women leaders and gender activists at the various levels.

The training manual was launched ahead of the one-day training workshop for the Erongo region Swapo Branch Coordinators, by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)

The training is aimed to empower trainees with the necessary basic understanding on gender, political advocacy and leadership. It is also aimed to stimulate critical awareness, analysis and foster gender assertiveness around the various challenges that impede the equal participation, representation and the equitable development of women.

Project Manager at the FES Sylvia Mundjindi added that although the SPWC and FES are proud of the increased number of women in political decision making structures, there is a need to ensure that women are regularly empowered with the relevant skills in order to bring about the desired changed within the society.

For that reason, FES is thus here today to ensure that we play the role of ensuring that women are empowered and making a sustainable impact in the Namibian society.

FES believes in the culture and promotion of social democracy and social justice approached SPWC with an idea of the handbook, Mundjindi added.
