Stranded Namibians in Europe can return next week

The state in collaboration with Air Namibia has considered evacuating stranded Namibians citizens in Europe on 27 MAY 2020 provided that they are enough passengers, the Namibian Embassy in Russia said.

In a statement availed to Nampa on Wednesday, the embassy said that cost of flight tickets will cost will be decreased from the current location of passengers to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Windhoek will be borne by the passengers, it reads.

“To ensure smooth facilitation of the process and taking into consideration of the time constraints, potential passengers are requested to submit, their full names, nationality and passport, current location and physical address, email and mobile and place of residence in Namibia,” the statement reads.

The embassy is waiting for instruction from the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Funds and the Ministry of Health and social services regarding evacuation of students whom they are sponsoring under whether they should be allowed to be registered for evacuation will be communicated soon.

The state has, however, has not yet allocated funds to the Mission to provide financial assistance to Namibian nationals abroad and to repatriate the citizen, the embassy said.

Arrangements for a flight from the Russian Federation, Georgia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan to Frankfurt are underway.

Upon arrival in Namibia all passengers will be placed in a quarantine facility for 14 days at the facility to be communicated in due course, it reads.

Meanwhile, Air Namibia officially announced the cost of repatriation flight tickets today.
