Three killed outside Okahandja

INDHOEK: The driver and two females were killed instantly after the Toyota double cab pick-up overturn, injuring two others on the B1 road between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo.

The incident occurred five kilometers north of Okahandja, shortly before 19h00 on Sunday.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Regional Commander in the Otjozondjupa region Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo confirmed the incident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle which overturned and landed on its rear.

The unidentified driver, 38, and two females, ages unknown were declared dead at the scene, while another male and a five-year-old girl sustained serious injuries.

The two who sustained injuries were rushed to the Okahandja State Hospital.

Meanwhile, a member of the Namibian Defense Force (NDF) allegedly hit a police officer at the same scene, while police and paramedics attended to the casualties.

According to Anghuwo, the man approached the scene on high speed and failed to stop.

The officer was rushed to the hospital with injuries to his head, back and arm injuries.

The 29-year-old member of the force was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Anghuwo was however unable to indicate whether the NDF member was on duty or not and whether the vehicle driven belonged to the NDF or was private.
