Two more Namibian boxers eliminated from AG

Andreas Shikongo, and Martin Kambalili were on Thursday knocked out of the African Games boxing championships after losing their preliminary fights at the Al Amal Indoor Sports Centre in Rabat, Morocco.

Shikongo, who competed in the 75-kilogram (kg) middleweight category booked himself a spot in the round of 16 after beating Samuel Kamara from Sierra-Leon, on Wednesday.

The hard-punching Namibian boxer failed to convince the judges when he took on TarikAllali of Morocco on Thursday evening. All the five judges score the fight in in Allali'sfavour despite the Namibian boxers landing heavy punches on his opponent in the last round of the fight.

Meanwhile another Namibian who saw himself eliminated from the championship was Kambalili who lost his first fight at the competition to an Ethiopian opponent BiruKeralah as all the five judges scored the fight in his favour.

Kambalili had little to show for his fight on the day because his opponent had the better of him throughout the three rounds.

The two defeated boxers will now join the list of Nestor Thomas, and Tuyoleni Immanuel Shaanika who became the first boxers to be knocked out of the competition on Wednesday.

Despite having four boxers already knocked out of the competition team Namibia still have hope of winning a medal in boxing through their Commonwealth Games gold medallistJunias Jonas who outclassed his Egyptian opponent Ramadan Abdelkawi with a 5-0 score from the five judges on Thursday night.

Another Namibian that made it through to the next round of the competition is TryagainNdevelo who got a bypass to the next round of the competition. He will now join OivaUeitele who also got a bypass on Wednesday.
