Windhoek Gymnasium Take the Lead

Windhoek Gymnasium thumped WHS by 114 runs on Wednesday to remain the only unbeaten team at the Momentum Schools Cricket Festival.

WHS went into the match coming off two convincing victories against WAP and the Coastal team but their unbeaten run came to a sudden halt against Windhoek Gymnasium.

Windhoek Gymnasium batted first and got off to a poor start as they lost their first three wickets with only 13 runs on the board.

Lohan Louwrens and Danie van Schoor however started a fine fightback to help Windhoek Gymnasium reach 250 all out off their 50 overs.

Louwrens top-scored with 69 runs off 89 balls, while Van Schoor scored 66 off 76 balls.

JJ Smit was WHS’ top bowler, taking six wickets for 39 runs, while Warren van Wyk took 338.

WHS never got close to the total and were dismissed for 136 runs. Zane Green top-scored with 32 runs off 51 balls, while JJ Smit scored 22 off 17 balls.

At the WAP field, the Northern team beat the Coastal team by 13 runs.

The Northern team was dismissed for 130 runs with Ruan Ludick scoring 40 off 70 balls and FC Drotsky 22 off 60 balls.

Burton Jacobs and Petrus Burger excelled with the ball for the Coast, with Jacobs taking five wickets for 25 runs and Burger 538.

The Coastal team were all out for only 117 runs, as Ruan Ludick took five wickets for 12 runs while David David took 217.

At the CCD field, Botswana beat WAP by 114 runs.

Botswana scored 287 for eight wickets off their 50 overs, with Obakeng Eyman scoring 105 runs and Thabo Motlhabane 64 runs, while WAP were all out for 173 off 36,3 overs.

The T20 competition meanwhile commenced on Thursday, with WHS, Windhoek Gymnasium and the Coast getting off to winning starts.

At the United field, a great century by JJ Smit saw WHS reach 184 for two wickets off their 20 overs. Smit scored 102 off only 54 balls, which included a massive 10 sixes in total and five sixes off one over from the unfortunate bowler, Thabang Nshomane.

Botswana replied with 1077 to give WHS a 77-run victory. Thumelo Malema scored 60 off 88 balls, while Hendrik Koekemoer took 214 off four overs.

At the WAP field, the Coastal team beat WAP by seven wickets. The Coast scored 1213, with Ricardo Strauss scoring 52 off 36 balls, Petrus Burger 23 not out and Romario Scholtz 22.

WAP replied with 117 for six wickets with Joshuan Julies scoring 43 off 41 balls and Tiaan Nel 30 runs.

At the CCD field, Windhoek Gymnasium beat the Northern team by eight wickets.

The North were bundled out for 74 runs, with Danie van Schoor taking four wickets for 26 runs, while Francois Botes took 319.

Windhoek Gymnasium reached the winning target for the loss of two wickets, with SJ Loftie Eaton scoring 34 runs.
